On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the North East Moose Family Center made a generous $3,000 donation to the North East Fire Department (NEFD) Air Pack Fund, directly supporting the long-term safety of local firefighters and the community they serve.
Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs) are a critical component of firefighter safety, providing clean, breathable air in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health. In accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, SCBAs must be replaced every 15 years regardless of condition or usage.
Looking ahead to 2030, NEFD will be required to replace its full complement of SCBAs to remain compliant and ensure the highest level of safety for its members. The cost of a single complete SCBA unit—including the facepiece, backpack, and two air cylinders—is $8,553, and the department will need 40 units to meet operational and safety requirements. To responsibly prepare for this significant investment, the department has established a dedicated annual savings program, known as the Air Pack Fund.
The North East Moose Family Center’s contribution represents a meaningful investment in firefighter safety and readiness. Their support helps ensure that, when firefighters answer the call, they are equipped with the life-saving tools necessary to protect lives and property throughout the community.
The NEFD and Fuller Hose Company #1 extend sincere thanks to the North East Moose Family Center for their generosity, partnership, and continued commitment to community safety.
