On International Firefighters Day, the members of Fuller Hose Company #1, along with their families, gathered to recognize the dedication, courage, and commitment that continue to define our firehouse.
The evening served as an opportunity to honor members who have gone above and beyond in service to Fuller Hose Company #1 and the North East community.
Member-Voted Awards
Rookie of the Year was awarded to Firefighter Ryan Hanes, recognizing a member with less than five years of service for their hard work and dedication.
Outstanding Fireman of the Year was also awarded to Firefighter Ryan Hanes, recognizing his commitment to learning the business of Fuller Hose Company #1.
Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Captain Chris Skrekla, recognizing his dedication on emergency scenes and around the fire station.
Special Recognition
Members of the Fuller Hose Company #1 Water Rescue Team were recognized for going above and beyond on December 12, 2025, when they rescued a Canadian goose frozen in Lake Erie.
Recognized members included Aaron Jelly, Chris Skrekla, Matt Skrekla, Steve Wilkinson, and Steven Wilkinson.
Ryan Hanes was also recognized as the Top Responder of 2025, answering 236 of 374 calls.
Holmatro Gold Pin Awards
On January 15, 2026, Fuller Hose Company #1 and multiple East Erie County agencies responded to a series of vehicle accidents on Interstate 90.
During the first chain-reaction crash, the crew from Rescue Engine 204 and East Erie County EMS located an injured and entrapped patient, stabilized the vehicle, and extricated the patient using Holmatro rescue tools.
This rescue was submitted for recognition, and Holmatro honored the crew with Gold Pins and Certificates.
These recognitions reflect the training, teamwork, and commitment that power our mission every day.
