On Thursday\, September 11\, 2025\, McDonald’s restaurants across the region will raise money in support of local first responders and veterans’ groups. \nOur local McDonald’s in North East (12185 E Main Rd) will be donating 10% of all digital sales made through the McDonald’s App that day directly back to Fuller Hose Company No. 1. \nThis opportunity holds special meaning to us\, as it not only supports our volunteer fire company but also honors the memory of 9/11—a day that forever changed the way we view service\, sacrifice\, and community. \nPresident Billy Klenz shared his gratitude for the partnership\, saying: \n\n“McDonald’s has partnered with the fire department in the past for fundraising events and we are grateful to have been chosen for this event.” \n\nOur relationship with McDonald’s runs deeper than just fundraisers. Over the years\, they have been there for us in critical moments. As many of our members can attest\, when major incidents struck and we needed food to keep our firefighters going on scene\, McDonald’s stepped in to provide support without hesitation. \nThe 2025 McDonald’s 9/11 Digital Fundraiser is a chance for our community to give back in a simple\, impactful way. DESCRIPTION:Answering the Call: Why More Are Choosing to Volunteer with Fuller Hose\nHonoring National Volunteer Week 2025\nWhile Pennsylvania continues to see a troubling decline in volunteerism across fire and EMS services\, Fuller Hose Company #1 is proud to report a welcome trend in the opposite direction—an increase in new members who are stepping up to serve their community. \nAs we approach National Volunteer Week\, we shine a spotlight on three inspiring individuals who represent the next generation of volunteers at Fuller Hose: Christian Otto Smith\, Ryan Hanes\, and Zach Egan. Each brings a unique story\, a deep-rooted motivation to give back\, and a shared commitment to making a difference in North East\, PA. \n\n🔥 Christian Otto Smith – Joined June 2023\nAfter serving in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3/C\, Christian Otto Smith sought a new way to serve when he returned home. Honorably discharged in 2016\, he spent several years considering how best to continue contributing to something larger than himself. That calling led him to Fuller Hose in June 2023. \n\n“I was looking for a way to continue to serve—and for the brotherhood\,” Christian shared. \n\nChristian brings passion\, discipline\, and a thirst to learn. Whether it’s firefighting techniques or rescue operations\, he’s always ready to grow. Outside of the firehouse\, he’s also a musician\, performing as a guitarist and vocalist in the band Funky Mule. He and his wife\, Hayle\, live in North East with their three children—Karsen\, Hayden\, and Arabella—who are just as excited to be part of the Fuller Hose family. Christian is employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). \n\n🔥 Ryan Hanes – Joined June 2024\nRyan Hanes answered the call in June 2024\, driven by a legacy of service passed down from his late grandfather\, Jack DiOrazio Sr.\, a long-time firefighter in North East. \nWith his own background in the armed forces\, Ryan was looking for a way to reconnect with a sense of purpose and brotherhood. He found it at Fuller Hose. \n\n“Being able to be a member of a close-knit organization and team is something special to me\,” Ryan said. \n\nHis disciplined mindset\, hands-on skills\, and calm under pressure make him a strong addition to the team. \n\n🔥 Zach Egan – Joined March 2025\nThe most recent addition to the team\, Zach Egan\, joined Fuller Hose in March 2025. A full-time student at Penn State Behrend\, Zach is studying Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering Studies (IBE) and Project & Supply Chain Management (PSCM). He’ll graduate in May with plans to become a Construction Project Manager. \nZach wanted to challenge himself\, gain practical skills\, and give back to the community—especially before stepping into his professional career. \nIn his free time\, Zach enjoys camping\, snowmobiling\, working on cars\, and exploring the outdoors. His adventurous\, hands-on personality is a perfect match for the fast-paced world of volunteer firefighting. \n\nThese three stories are just a glimpse of the kind of people making a difference every day at Fuller Hose Company #1.  Since 2023 we have welcome SEVEN new members total and WE HAVE ROOM FOR YOU!
